چکیده

The authors present the endoscopic intranasal orbital decompression, one of the surgical techniques used for orbital decompression. It can be applied for various indications. The most common indications are: maxillo-facial trauma, orbital haemorrhage, subperiorbital abscess as the complication of sinusitis, optic neuropathy, thyroidassociated orbitopathy (Graves’ orbitopathy). The authors conclude that the endoscopic transnasal orbital decompression is a valuable and safe operational technique for patients requiring orbital decompression.

Endoscopic orbital and optic nerve decompression.

The endoscopic transnasal approach is well suited for decompression of both the orbit and optic canal. High-resolution nasal endoscopes provide excellent visualization for bone removal along the orbital apex and skull base. Endoscopic orbital decompression has proved to be safe and effective for the treatment of patients with Graves' orbitopathy; however, the indications and outcomes for endosc...

Surgical complications in orbital decompression for Graves' orbitopathy

The objective of this study is to analyse the complications of orbital decompression in Graves' orbitopathy. The clinical records of 946 patients who had been operated on with orbital decompression for Graves' orbitopathy were reviewed and the intra- and post-operative complications with minimum follow-up of six months were analysed. An extensive review of the literature was carried out to comp...

Endoscopic Orbital Decompression for Graves' Ophthalmopathy*

Background: In patients with Graves' ophthalmopathy, orbital decompression surgery is indicated for compressive optic neuropathy, severe corneal exposure, or for cosmetic deformity due to proptosis. Traditionally this has been performed through a transantral approach, but the associated complication rate is high. More recently, endoscopic orbital decompression has been performed successfully wi...

Management of sinonasal complications after endoscopic orbital decompression for Graves' orbitopathy.

OBJECTIVES/HYPOTHESIS Endoscopic orbital decompression (EnOD) has proven to be safe and effective for the treatment of Graves' orbitopathy; however, complications do occur. Although the literature focuses on orbital complications, sinonasal complications including postobstructive sinusitis, hemorrhage, and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leak can also be challenging to manage. This study examines the...

Orbital Decompression in the Endoscopic Age

Objective. Postoperative diplopia occurs in up to 45% of patients following orbital decompression for exophthalmos associated with Graves’ orbitopathy. We sought to describe outcomes of our balanced orbital decompression strategy that includes the preservation of a modified inferomedial orbital strut (mIOS). Study Design: Case series with chart review. Setting: Academic medical center. Subjects...
